I started creating some 3D blender models and rendering it into spritesheets. The models are kept simple just some standard testured geometry. Because they will be rendered to a small size there will be no need for much detail.

This will be the space core you will have to defend.
The space core consists of a sphere. Some (2) small cylinders with small ‘light’ spheres rotate around the main sphere. Some compositing is done to achieve some glow on the ‘light’ spheres.

I think you spend too much time making the gun for such a small area. You can do what you did in photoshop in much less time and probably will look better too.
It is true. But because I am not much of a Photoshop artist and modeling it in Blender gives my 3D rotating possiblilties I choose to use the 3D model approach.
@superman: why did you think it would look better in photoshop? Just curious.
