To make a game in Flash – Part I – Starting up

After doing major Pushbutton Game Engine research the last weeks I think I have reached a point where my AS3 scripting and PBEngine coding knowledge has accumulated sufficiently to take a deep dive into the world of Flash Game creation.

Next weeks I will be coding and designing Graphics for a Flash game that will get the name ‘Space Core Defender’. To make a game in Flash requires multiple disciplines like creating conceps, making animations, background images and sounds. As the makeyourflashgame.com initiative is still in a start up phase I will have a go at all these disciplines myself.

When you make a game help is always welcome so maybe people will join me in the process of this game creation project in time to come.

We will see where this goes….

For the concept of the game I have created some sketches that I will explain the next post.

For the graphics I will use the open source 3D modeling tool Blender 2.49a and the applications Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

For the AS3 coding I will use the PushButton Engine and probably some additional engines for effects, particles and other things I can’t come up with right now. Maybe write some nice and usefull PushButton components in the process. Development IDE will be Flex Builder 3.

For sounds …. mmm … well I will get to that at a later stage ..

I want this game to be fun to play, have awesome graphics and should feel like a professional created Flash Game where Kongregate and Mochiads would die for …. mmm .. maybe my expectations could be just a little a bit to high.

If the game is received well by the Push Button Engine community – those guys are the only ones I know in the flash game industry – I will try to get some license using Flash Game License , and maybe make some money with this after all.

This sounds great! As you know, I’m following a similar path so if there are ways we can help each, let’s do it. I’m certain there will be some common problems we’ll need to solve. ;)

    Good luck!
